چکیده

Introduction: Digital subtraction X-ray angiography (DSA) is a widely used technique for the characterization of cerebral vessels. While MRI and CT can, in principle, provide angiographic information that could replace the riskier DSA study, which requires placement of a catheter for localized contrast injection and high doses of X-ray, these techniques typically lack the vessel selectivity and temporal resolution of DSA. Though arterial spin labeling MRI has primarily been used for perfusion imaging, recent developments including arterial selective imaging have made possible MR angiographic acquisitions with flexible labeling of arterial blood within feeding arterial vessels. Here we present the use of selective arterial spin labeling methods combined with balancedSSFP acquisition to provide an MR angiographic exam more similar to DSA.

Four-dimensional noncontrast-enhanced MR angiography at ultrahigh field

Background Arterial spin labeled (ASL) 4D MRA has been shown to be a valuable method for simultaneously assessing anatomic structure and dynamic filling of cerebral arteries. Beyond improved SNR and parallel imaging performance, performing these studies at ultrahigh field will benefit from longer T1s resulting in more persistent labeling allowing for improved visualization of distal vessels, es...

Evaluation of Intracranial Vasculatures in Healthy Subjects with Arterial-Spin-Labeling-Based 4D-MR Angiography at 3T

Contrast inherent inflow-enhanced multi-phase angiography combining multiple-phase flow-alternating inversion-recovery (CINEMA-FAIR) is an arterial-spin-labeling-based four-dimensional magnetic resonance angiography (4D-MRA) technique. Two neuroradiologists independently evaluated the depiction of the intracranial vasculatures in healthy subjects with 3T 4D-MRA using CINEMA-FAIR. Our results in...

Quantitative assessment of mixed cerebral vascular territory supply with vessel encoded arterial spin labeling MRI.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Recent advances in arterial spin labeling MRI have permitted noninvasive evaluation of vascular territories. In the present study, we quantitatively assess mixing of internal carotid and basilar artery blood through cerebrovascular anastomoses using vessel-encoded arterial spin labeling and a new postprocessing method. METHODS Vessel-encoded arterial spin labeling was u...

Carotid MR angiography using pulsed continuous arterial spin labeling

Introduction Carotid artery disease is a major cause of cerebral ischemia and infarction. It is routinely assessed using contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Several methods for nonenhanced MRA exist, which may be particularly advantageous in patients with impaired renal function due to the risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Pulsed arterial spin-labeled (ASL) MRA has been...

Optimization of 4D vessel‐selective arterial spin labeling angiography using balanced steady‐state free precession and vessel‐encoding

Vessel-selective dynamic angiograms provide a wealth of useful information about the anatomical and functional status of arteries, including information about collateral flow and blood supply to lesions. Conventional x-ray techniques are invasive and carry some risks to the patient, so non-invasive alternatives are desirable. Previously, non-contrast dynamic MRI angiograms based on arterial spi...
